About RFT

Renewable Fuel Technologies began developing torrefaction equipment in 2008 and has developed the first purpose built torrefaction reactor technology.  RFT has two issued patents and numerous patents pending.

2013-2014 RFT is making progress on the design of full production scale, 1Ton/hr systems, both for modular-mobile and fixed location applications and has initiated RFQ activity for major system components.

2013 Successfully built and operated a 1Ton/day demonstration unit, mounted on a flat-bed Semi-Trailer, producing multiple tons of torrefied almond shells and Tan Oak.  RFT completed a Mass/Energy balance project with SERC on the unit late in 2013 under a CEC funded grant. Paper to be published by SERC early in 2014.

2011 Successfully built and operated a small scale 120lb/day prototype.  Produced over 1 ton BioCoal some which was blended in for a successful test-burn at a power plant in Pittsburg, CA.

RFT has a Collaborative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the USDA at the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) facility in Albany, CA, and is collaborating with Schatz Energy Research Center (SERC) located  at Humboldt State University in Arcata, CA.
